Welcome to our first edition of the 3MT contest!
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) is an academic research communication competition that was first developed by the University of Queensland in 2008. It challenges graduate students to communicate the significance of their projects to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.
The idea came about as the state of Queensland was suffering from a severe draught. Residents were encouraged to time their showers, and many people had a three-minute egg timer on their bathroom wall. 3 minutes then became a unit of measure for many things – and even for academic research presentations.
The 3MT provides the opportunity for candidates to develop presentation skills that are crucial for a successful career, inside and outside of academia. After all, how many times will our graduate students have to answer this simple question: What was your research about?
Please vote for your favorite video, and remember: They only had three minutes.
Winners will be awarded the following prizes:
– 1st place: 500 SGD
– 2nd place: 350 SGD
– 3rd place: 250 SGD
The votes will be open from August 6th till August 20th. Cast your vote (one vote per pax only) at the link below!
This 3MT competition is part of the Independent Research Project module undertaken by our Master’s in Urban Science, Policy and Planning students who are currently in the last semester of the program.
